1. Пытаюсь обновить установленные пакеты программ, которые предлагаются для обновления, скачивает до 50-90 процентов один пакет  и потом опять начинает скачивать и количество итераций скачивания одного пакета растет. Как исправить? Хотел обновиться до 8.04, но с этими обновлениями никак не получается заполучить кнопку Fetch Updates.
   
2. Поставил Yakuake. Почему-то не могу набирать в нем команды, как-будто не работает клавиатура -- программа на нажатие клавиш не реагирует и причем это иногда быват даже со стандартным терминалом kubuntu. Как решить?

1] i just wolved down half a delicious rotisserie chicken in a matter of 10 minutes. using my fingers, not even getting a plate. ravenous. as if there wasn't enough food in vegas - lolz.

2] i'm in such a good mood that i feel like doing something fun tonight. maybe we can go up to hollywood or something. the weather is gorgeous. sunny, breezy california perfection.

3] i'm meeting isa at the beach cafe later for dinner and catching up after the weekend away. she says she has something for me; can't wait to see what it is. i have something for her, too. she's become such a good friend. 

4] change of summer travel plans. not going to italy, changed my mind. we're flying into france, then spain. YES! :]]]]] 

5] i laughed all the way through buying bayer 'aspirina' (labelled in spanish but still made in u.s.a.) and mother-of-pearl-pink sunglasses at the dollar store. they have a brandname and a $38 tag on them. sometimes i just have to go inside when i pass the store. i paid exactly $1.98 for both items.

На это я ему кое что ответил, но более полно решил написать тут:

Упомянутое утверждение Лебедева датируется хрен знает каким годом, со временем некоторые параграфы ководства либо удаляются, либо сильно изменяются но,
конечно, остаются и спорные устаревшие. Специально пробежал оглавление ководства, про кавычки есть хороший параграф, но там немножко про другое :) Например, про то, что называть «"» — кавычками на самом деле не правильно, но все привыкли, не будем забивать голову.

Утверждения Лебедева про современные браузеры не нашёл, но возможно видел когда-то в старой версии ководства.

Необязательными кавычки являются достаточно давно, дело тут именно в идиотском подходе к стандартизации как W3C, так и производителей браузеров.
Сейчас, с популяризацией XHTML, в котором кавычки обязательны (это является частью спецификации XML), ситуация меняется в лучшую сторону.

Помимо двойных кавычек в HTML допускается использование одинарных (современным спецификациям это противоречит). 
Без кавычек не обойтись в конструкциях вида <div class="comment active"> (так называемых мультиклассах CSS), и вообще в случаях, когда значение параметра содержит пробелы.
Во избежание разночтений конечно нужно придерживаться единого стиля, хотя бы в пределах одной работы. Самый удобный — двойные кавычки.

javaScript и PHP позволяют использовать как двойные, так и одинарные кавычки. В PHP строка в двойных кавычках автоматически может быть преобразована при помоши параметров, например "my name is $name". Переменные в PHP, как известно, обязательно начинаются со знака «$». Это, судя по всему, и было сделано для того, чтобы парсер мог выделять переменные в строках. Глупость редкостная, такая же как и конкотенация строк при помощи «.». Полагаю, что PHP быстрее работает со строками, заключёнными в одинарные кавычки, хотя в большинстве случаев это не имеет особого значения.

В PHP и javaScript я использую, в основном, одинарные кавычки, ещё с паскаля привык, читается лучше.

Повоторюсь, главное — всё же соблюдение единого стиля, причём это касается и HTML и javaScript и PHP да и всего остального тоже.

great times in vegas! i even won some money playing my favorite - roulette - and some $1 slots. it didn't make me *significantly richer but i was happy i didn't loose any. : D

while roulette is an intuitive thing, you have to put in some time when it comes to the slots. when you do that, you more often than not come out about even or at least a little on top. if you give up too soon, you usually just loose and quickly. i believe this is what they're aiming for; the machines are set up that way. gambling is all about psychology. for one, the casinos know that most people don't have a long enough attention span. they don't stick with and panick too quickly once they start loosing... and consequently walk away too soon from the slots. at the same time you also cannot completely overstay your welcome. there's a fine line between too soon and just right and between just right and too long. it's more than clear overall that the house always wins. they make sure the machines do what they want them to do. period. significant wins are designed to keep the rest of us going.

but yes, i do think there are nuances to this game. having been to vegas so many times now and having played the slots quite a bit during these visits, this is my experience from mere observation. i will never be a major gambler -- far too swiss for that still, hahahhaha -- but i do like the thrill, the adrenaline, the excitement that is in watching the wheels turn in both roulette and slots (couldn't care less for card games while horse race bets can be fun as well). i set a budget to gamble with and don't go over it. dangerous, of course, as it can be very tempting and hard to really stop when amount x is reached - but you have to have yourself under control or else, you *will* end up addicted and broke for sure.

i loved the mandalay bay. it's stylish and more sophisticated than most of the other hotels. nice rooms and restaurants. i would say it's more of a romantic/couple (and business traveller) destination than family-oriented/casual. and the luxor pyramid is just always cool again to stay in, including the windows in the room and the diagonal elevators. the rooms are okay, the bathroom was pretty nice. but we didn't spend very much time in the rooms anyway. after all you don't go to vegas to... sleep! lolz. here's how the luxor pyramid works if anyone is interested. :] http://www.ghostinmysuitcase.com/places/luxor/index.htm
